Niagara-on-the-Lake has been a haven for artists and artisans for many years. The historic little town provides the perfect setting for artists. Names like Patricia Romance, Angie Strauss and others are familiar to those folks wishing to enjoy Canadian art.
Also located along the picturesque Niagara River Parkway, near Queenston, is the RiverBrink Art Museum which houses the Weir Collection. The stately home provides a showcase for a wonderful collection of fine art and rare books as well as decorative art items.
New to the arts scene in Niagara is the re-development of historic downtown Niagara Falls. The old heart of Niagara Falls has come alive with the emergence of some wonderful art galleries and artisan shoppes. Edward Spera's gallery is inspired by his travels across the globe. A variety of Canadian artists works are displayed at the Historic Niagara Artists' Exhibition Centre. John Newby's nostalgic pieces are a glimpse into Canada today and yesterday. Another gallery jewel in Niagara's crown is the Niagara Falls Art Gallery, home to the world famous William Kurelek Art Collection, the artist's personal papers and library. Also part of the Gallery's permanent collection is the John Burtniak Niagara Collection of historical Niagara Falls artwork from the 1700's to the 1950's.
